Serious heat and humidity but still piling mileage

The last 2 weeks have been horrendous.  I don't think I ever remember humidity this bad while I was out running. Could just be that I'm running 8-9 miles now when I used to run 4-5 miles?  4-5 miles in the heat would definitely be more barrable.

Yesterday, I ran a particularly grueling 9 miles.  I headed out the door with the intention of running 10 miles.  The first 2 miles went smooth with a 6:56 followed by a 6:49.  I felt good but knew I couldn't hold that pace for a full 10 so I slowed down to 7:10, 7:07, 7:12 for the next 3 miles.

By the end of the 5th mile my heart rate was up to 162 (88% of max) and it pretty much held there for the rest of the run as a slowly died.  Mile 6 was 7:20 and miles 7, 8, 9 were 7:32, 7:28, 7:30.  I was all I could do to hold the effort and I decided to cut it short at 9 miles so I could live to fight another day. I was of course absolutely soaked by the end of the run and feeling like crap.  Still, I was satisfied with the effort and felt by cutting it at 9 I prevented myself from overdoing it.

Last night it finally rained and the heat/humidity broke a bit.  When I left the house this morning it was 69 degrees with a slight breeze and it felt really good.  Due to yesterdays hard effort I ran easy today and ran the first 4 miles at 8:25 pace... after that I was starting to feel good so I picked it up a bit and ran 8:08, 8:11, 7:56, and then an extra 1/2 miles at 7:26 pace.

When I got back I finally felt like doing so pullups which is a good sign for my overall fatigue level.  I knocked out 3 sets of 15 (15 pullsup, 15 chin-ups, 15 side grip) for a record performance.

Mileage for the week is at 46.15.  If I run my usual 8 miles tomorrow, I will have a new weekly mileage high.
